Latest Updates from Our Project:

Stretch Goals Unlocked!
12 months ago – Thu, Mar 20, 2025 at 06:30:32 AM

Dear backers,

Since the last update we've unlocked all stretch goal writers for the project, which we couldn't be happier about!

First, we unlocked @mirror-lock.bsky.social

S. Kaiya J. (she/her) is a Chinese-diaspora TTRPG writer, editor, performer and game designer. Her games focus on identity, belonging, self-conception and transformation. She's best known for her solo journaling games Her Odyssey and Galatea. She enjoys ludonarrative harmony, Chekhov's machine guns, and dying in dramatic ways. Her game, 'Children Of Heaven', is loosely based on folklore circulated by homeless children in Miami during the 90s.

Our next writer is @tgimenezrgm.itch.io

Tomas Gimenez Rioja (he/him) is a game designer, writer, project manager, software engineer. He wrote for Paizo's 'Divine Mysteries' book, was lead monster designer for 'Circus Borg', and designed for 'D&D Subclasses Revivified', amongst other projects. Tomas loves writing and telling stories filled with powerful feelings, and he creates mechanics that push players to do just that. His game, 'A Foul Errand', is themed around archeological research conducted in a mine, and will feature a rogue like mechanic.

Finally - meet @finleyjinley.bsky.social

Finley Palaniki (they/he) is a games scholar who has jumped into designing TTRPGs! Their academic interests are focused on solo RPGs & how they are pushing the boundaries of games design and storytelling. This love of solo gaming has driven a passion for crafting introspective solo experiences such as 'Darling, You're A Haunted House'. Their game, 'Red Skies', is heavily inspired by the video game 'Dredge' and will feature a mechanic to determine weather conditions.

Thank you so much for all your support. Please continue to spread the word about GAST, and help us reach that final stretch goal of the Game Jam Grants for 3 fresh zines! Also, if you've currently joined Backer Train, please consider upgrading your pledge before funding completes on April 3rd.

Best wishes for now,
Team Hatched

Funded!
12 months ago – Thu, Mar 13, 2025 at 12:21:03 PM

Hi everyone,

Thanks to your support, we managed to fund in just 30mins! This is obviously wonderful, and even better, we did it while the creator of the Carta system, which we're using for our zines, was on the launch stream.

We've also unlocked the first stretch goal, which will allow us to add Kaiya's game to the project. Hopefully we can keep the funding going and reach those other guest writer goals.

We're all a little overwhelmed, but we'll try to post updates regularly including the cover reveal for Gabriel Robinson's zine Bog Berries next week.

Best wishes,
Team Hatched

Preparing for launch
about 1 year ago – Thu, Feb 06, 2025 at 06:47:36 AM

Hello GAST followers,

We wanted to offer you some deeper insights into the project, talk about what the funding means for us, and let you know how you can support the project.

GAST Season One will establish Hatched Games, a small business showcasing diverse writing talent throughout the tabletop RPG industry. The team have a real passion for horror and folklore, so the opportunity to design and write for the genre is so exciting!

GAST will start as a solo zine collection using the Carta system by Peach Garden Games and explore the subgenre of folk horror. This extends to the games by our guest writers Tomas, Kaiya, and Finley. Having already met with them, like the core team, we are all looking to adapt the mechanics of Carta to suit our themes.

We've over the moon with the collaborations on the project. We have Gabriel Robinson, the creator of TOKEN and co-creator of The Silt Verses RPG, who will be writing a zine for our deluxe game box. We're also joining Chris Bissette for cross-collaboration on his zine Blood in the Margins. Both creators are highly respected in the ttrpg and horror communities.

One of the stretch goals for GAST is a game jam on itch.io. If it's unlocked, Cat McDonald - the creator of Carta - will pick three winning games we'll publish as part of the collection. Beyond that, we've already decided on the SRD and subgenre for Season Two, and if the crowdfund exceeds expectations, we may even opt to publish two seasons in 2026!

So how can you help before our March 13th launch? Spreading the word on socials and between family and friends would give us such a huge lift. Also, if you haven't yet signed up for a BackerKit account, now is the time to create one.
